Since its creation in 2001, the Gender, Society and Policies Area at FLACSO strives to:

• Foster and carry out research, training programs and activities centered on gender relations across different fields of expertise and action
• Design, manage and assess strategies and methodologies to mainstream a gender perspective into policy, projects and programs
• Influence agendas and policy making
• Publish and disseminate publications and other academic and educational materials

It is based in Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) – Argentina. Ever since its creation in 1974, this academic venue has carried out ongoing scientific work in the field of Social Sciences on the basis of premises such as ideologic pluralism and excellence together with academic rigor and environmental committment, thus contributing towards the improvement of society.

Two programs are being implemented regionally and internationally:

• Regional Training Program on Gender and Public Policies
  (Master Studies and Graduate students - PRIGEPP)
• UNESCO Regional Chair Women, Science and Technology in Latin America

Both programs aim at:

1. Training
2. Conducting Research
3. Influencing policies and programs
4. Coordinating the creation and maintenance of Networks and Communities of Practice

The International Conference: “Gender Equity Policies –A Prospective View: New Scenarios, Actors and Articulations” gives continuity to a long standing cluster of regional and transnational events which have taken place since 2001, bringing together several regional and international organizations.
